UPDATE: Comcast Estimates Service In Park City Area 100% Restored By 8 P.M.

KPCW Radio

15,000 Comcast customers in the Park City area have been impacted by internet, phone and TV service outages since midmorning Wednesday.

Deneiva Knight, the director of external affairs for Comcast in Utah, says the outage occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday, when a third-party construction truck hit a pole fiber line. Comcast has been working to repair the line since then.

Knight says while some customers can expect service to be restored by 4:30 p.m., Comcast estimates service won’t be fully restored until 8 p.m. Wednesday. The outage has affected some pockets of Salt Lake County but has primarily been felt in Comcast’s Park City service area.

Knight says outages often happen during the summer construction season, when machinery is more likely to damage fiber lines. Knight says Comcast addresses disruptions as they happen.

To compensate customers for the inconvenience, Knight says Comcast proactively credits subscribers’ accounts for the number of days they’re impacted. Customers don’t need to call the Comcast service center to be credited—it should happen automatically.

When outages happen, Knight recommends subscribers visit xfinity.com to check Comcast’s outage map. It shows areas affected by outages, so customers know if it’s a widespread issue or something specific to their home. Knight says Comcast will also send out mass text messages to notify customers of outages.
