Walt Meier, a senior research scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) breaks down the latest information on what's happening with the planet's Arctic sea ice.

Global sea ice typically reaches its annual maximum extent around this time of year, as Arctic sea ice expands in extent. Meier's primary role is supporting the NASA Snow and Ice Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) at NSIDC as the DAAC scientist.
