Former Polygamists Back Man Who Won Custody Suit

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Several men exiled from Warren Jeffs' polygamous sect say requiring a man to pay his wives' attorney fees after winning a recent custody suit would have a chilling effect on others who have been kicked out and want their children back.

Lorin Holm is fighting back against being forced to pay up to $76,000 to attorney Rod Parker, who represented Holm's two wives who remain followers of Jeff. Parker says a state statue alows a judge to charge the winning spouse in a custody suit if the other is unable to pay.

The other men who have been kicked out of the sect on the Utah-Arizona border say that if Holm is required to pay, it will discourage them and others from going to court to reunite with their children.
