Today in the program, hosts Lynn Ware Peek and John Wells go on a wild ride with science writer Mara Grunbaum. Her work has appeared in Popular Science, Discover, and Scientific American and more. She’s written a new book – unlike none you’ve ever seen before about the strange things that evolution has produced. It’s called WTF, Evolution: A Theory of Unintelligible Design.
Then in a recent paper published by the University of Utah, scientists have concluded that despite public belief to the contrary, hands-free, voice-controlled automobile infotainment systems can distract drivers. However it is possible to design them to be safer and the lead scientist on the study, Professor David Strayer, joins the show to talk about it. Sounds like a design project for U of U students is on the horizon.
Plus, some Cool Science stories and a recap of those Nobel winning scientists from this week.
