In a move that will help protect one of the Southwest’s most iconic landscapes, the Bureau of Land Management recently decided to remove parcels of land residing at the door step of Zion National Park from a proposed September oil and gas lease sale. David Nimkin is the Senior Southwest Regional Director for The National Parks Conservation Association. He joins Chris and Nell in the first part of the show to talk about the process and the results. Then, in the second half of the show, they speak with Summit County Council member Kim Carson about a resolution which supports the need to keep public lands in public hands. The council recently passed this resolution in response to public input. The resolution recognizes the value of federal public lands to Summit County, Utah’s economy, recreation, heritage and quality of life.
