Sheriff's deputies say a 40-year-old Park City man stole this merchandise and then tried to resell some of it on Facebook. It says the snowboards were taken from Canyons Village Jan. 16, 2025.

Summit County deputies arrested the suspect after staging a sting on Facebook Marketplace.

A 40-year-old Park City man was arrested Jan. 18 after listing stolen snowboards on Facebook.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says the gear matched a description given by employees of the Sunrise Lodge in Canyons Village, where three boards were stolen Jan. 16.

Undercover deputies messaged the man and scheduled an appointment to buy a snowboard in Park City Jan. 18, according to sheriff’s spokesperson Skyler Talbot. Uniformed deputies made the arrest after the transaction was complete.

In a sworn statement supporting the arrest, a deputy said the man admitted to the theft and told authorities where to find the two other boards.

They recovered three pairs of suspected stolen skis at the location the man gave. He allegedly told deputies he could not remember where the skis were from.

Talbot said some of the additional recovered items are likely connected to an active Park City Police Department theft case. It’s not yet clear if they were also taken from the Sunrise Lodge area or elsewhere on a different day.

The sheriff’s office is working to return the items to their owners.

Investigators say there is surveillance footage of a man taking two of the snowboards from Sunrise. Deputies say the man they arrested is a match for the man in the video.

The man was booked into jail on suspicion of felony theft and possession of stolen property. He was released from jail on the condition that he respond to court summons.

No charges had been filed at the time of publication.
