Newly Hired Kimball Art Center Director Resigns

Kimball Art Center

After being named the new Executive Director of the Kimball Arts Center in July, Lindsie Smith has resigned and an interim director has been named as the search for a new director begins again.  KPCW’s Leslie Thatcher has more.

Last December, long time Kimball Art Center Director Robin Marrouche announced that she was resigning from the job. At that point, a national search for her replacement began and after several months, Lindsie Smith was named as her replacement..

Smith  - who is a Salt Lake resident, served as the education director for the Clark Planetarium and says that after four months on the job  at the Kimball,, she has realized how much she missed science education and has decided to return to the planetarium.

In a press release she said she was thankful for the opportunity lead an organization as innovative, creative and impactful as the Kimball.

Her last day is Wednesday. The Kimball also announce that George "Jory" Macomber has been appointed the Interim Executive Director/Education Director. He has served as Vice President of Career and Education at U.S. Ski and Snowboard. He also recently served as the Head of School for the Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont. There, he led staff development, program development and fundraising, and spearheaded the design and construction of two, multi-million dollar facilities.

The Kimball Art Center has signed a letter of intent with Park City Municipal to purchase acreage in the new Arts and Culture District and build its new art center in Bonanza Park.

Smith says she’s confident that Macomber’s expertise, combined with the commitment from the Kimball staff and board, the Art Center will continue its forward momentum.

Macomber starts his new position on Monday, November 27th.
