Dollar Ridge Fire Causes Evacuations For Wasatch County

The Dollar Ridge Fire has jumped over State Route 40 near milepost 57, about 4 miles west of Fruitland. UDOT has closed the highway from mile post 50 near Strawberry Reservoir to mile post 85 near Duchesne until further notice.

Wasatch County Sheriff’s office issued a mandatory evacuation to 40 Dam Acres, Pinehollow, Aspen Grove campground and marina.

The Dollar Ridge fire started Sunday afternoon and has grown to 42,000 acres, that nearly 60 square miles, with just 4% containment.

The fire started 4.5 miles Southeast of Strawberry Reservoir, and has worked its way Northeast towards Fruitland and Starvation state park

Other evacuations have occurred in Duchesne County including nearly 300 residences.

Crews are unable to count how many structures have burned, they do know that there has been property loss.

FEMA has authorized federal aid to help fund the fighting of this wildfire. FEMA funding is available to pay 75% of the state’s firefighting costs.

Over 400 personnel are working to extinguish the fire. An estimated containment date is July 20th.

The Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands say the Dollar Ridge fire spread quickly due to the steep terrain and high winds.

The fire started on private property the division says the fire was human caused.
