Heber Airport Museum Ready To Commemorate 75th Anniversary of D-Day

Heber Airport Museum

The Heber City’s Airport’s popular aviation museum opened for the season last weekend. This year, it’s celebrating an important anniversary from World War II.

The Museum is operated by the Utah Wing of the Commemorative Air Force, an all-volunteer group. Spokeswoman Beth Ann Schneider said the facility is open until October on weekends. However, visits by appointment can also be made.

Schneider had details about some of the planes and exhibits on hand.

“We have a PT-17 Stearman currently under restoration, one of them. We have two, one is flying one’s under restoration. You can see that restoration which is a very exciting thing to look at. We have a North American T-6 Texan. You can ride on both of these aircraft. If you’d like a ride you can call 801-719-8876.”

They also feature memorabilia from some of the founding veterans of the Museum, who were all Park City residents; information on the Airport’s namesake Russ McDonald and an exhibit on woman in World War II.

The facility asks for donations—generally $8 for a family and $5 for an individual.

Among the highlights, she said the B-17 is returning to Heber to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.

“The bomber will be here to help us commemorate that milestone June 3rd through 10. You can ride on that aircraft. To book a ride in advance and I would suggest that you do that 480-462-2992. That’s the Arizona Commemorative Air Force that’s sponsoring that aircraft to come in.”

There are festivities scheduled on and around June the 6th.

“On June 6th, the actual D-day we are doing a World War 2 veteran memorial at noon. We’ll have the Danny Newell swing band playing from 11:00 to 2:00 PM. Lots of kid’s activities, lots going on that day. June 8th is our annual pancake breakfast in the morning and our annual everyone looks forward to our 1940s swing dance party with once again that Danny Newell tribute band.”

Another important date is August 3rd, which is the annual Plans and Horsepower Car Show.

“If you’d like to register your car for that great photo opps with our aircraft and your car. You can go to our website CASutahwing.org or call 801-928-6950.”

Finally, she had instructions on how to find the Museum.

“Come to the Heber City Airport and when you get to the end of airport road there you take a left. It's a now paved road and you go all the way down to the last hanger on the South end of the field. You'll see our sign and you'll see our driveway and you can get in there.”

For more information, you can call them at 435-709-7269
