Summit County Democrats Select New Chair And County Assessor

Summit County Democratic Party

The Summit County Democratic Party recently elected a new chairwoman and delegates nominated a replacement for County Assessor

At their convention held earlier in May, the county Democrats elected Meredith Reed to succeed Cheryl Butler as chairwoman of the party.

Reed is an Air Force veteran, Park City realtor and KPCW DJ. She was also the campaign manager last year for Eileen Gallagher, who ran to represent Utah’s Senate District 26, which ranges from Vernal to a substantial portion of Summit County.

In a press statement, Reed said she is committed to having real conversations with members of the community and raising awareness of what their party stands for. She added, “Our values are Utah values—family, education, a healthy community and the importance of serving in our communities.”

Also, County Assessor Steve Martin, who is a Democrat, recently resigned his position.

Given that, the county convention considered four candidates, and nominated Stephanie Larsen as the new Assessor. In an e-mail to KPCW, Larsen said she has worked in the office for four years and had 15 years prior experience in another county. She said that, with Travis Lewis as her chief deputy, their first order of business is to finalize the tax rolls by May 22nd. She wrote, “Summit County is a wonderfully diverse county and our office will strive to meet the demands of appraising each property fairly and equitably.”

Larsen said she anticipates running for the Assessor position in her own right in 2020, which will be for a four-year term.
