Free Parent And Child Workshop Offered At The MARC This Summer

PCMC

Valley Behavioral Health is offering a free workshop for families to learn effective ways to relate and build cooperative behaviors in young children. It’s once a week starting July 1 at the MARC.

Alejandra Lara is the Summit County Prevention Specialist running the workshop. The workshop is designed for parents and kids eight years old and younger.

“We want to teach really a lot of different skills that are going to help us really shape how our kids believe in themselves and how they take decisions for the rest of their lives.”

The workshop is designed to last seven weeks with classes on Mondays beginning July 1. They run noon to 1:30 and Lara says they are flexible on attendance.

“We totally understand that people are really busy and that seven weeks might be a long time so we will also be open for people that might just want to come to just one class or two classes.”

Lara says they’ll cover several topics that will help parents learn how to best address social and emotional development in their kids.

“Understanding our young children and their behavior. Building self esteem in their early years. Listening and talking to young kids and helping them to learn to cooperate. Discipline and social and emotional development.”

The class can take up to 12 people. The MARC will offer free childcare during the class times.

Lara says the class can be offered in Spanish as well. It starts July 1st and runs every Monday through August 5th from non to 1:30 pm.  If interested in signing up, contact her at: 435-575-1213
