Summit County deputies are investigating the death of an elderly mountain biker who evidently crashed Friday afternoon on a trail in Round Valley.
Summit County Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright said they couldn’t disclose the name of the deceased at this point. He did say it was a 78-year-old man from Pinebrook.
The Sheriff’s report said that last Friday, at about 4 p.m. several other bikers reported coming across the man lying on the ground on the Nowhere Elks Trail. They began administering CPR before other medical and Life Flight responders worked on the unconscious patient, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers believe that the biker was coming downhill and hit a rock. Lt. Wright said the bike was found several yards away from the victim, and the front tire was significantly bent.
He said they’re awaiting a report from the Medical Examiner’s Office to see if there were any contributing factors to the crash.
