Summit County saw another COVID-19 related death Thursday - this is the third Summit County resident to die from COVID-19 in the past week. Wasatch County also reported another COVID-19 related death.
Utah’s Department of Health reported 18 new deaths Thursday - bringing the total number to 756 since the start of the pandemic. One of the reported deaths was a Summit County woman who was over 85 years old. She was a long-term care facility resident. Another was a Wasatch County woman who was also over 85 years old and was hospitalized at the time of her death.
Summit County has seen four COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic, and Wasatch County has reported 11.
Utah’s Health Department reported 3,968 new COVID-19 cases Thursday. The 7-day rolling average of new cases is now 3,163 per day. This time last week the state’s 7-day average was 2,738.
Summit County saw 30 new cases, and last Thursday - for comparison - Summit reported 29 new infections.
The Wasatch County Health Department reported 32 new cases. Last Thursday the county saw 57.
Summit County’s seven-day average of positive laboratory tests is currently at 13%, and 26% of tests are coming back positive in Wasatch County. The percent for positive test results in the state is close to 24%. Only a month ago, the state’s average of positive tests was about 14%.
Utah’s Department of Health reported 108 new hospitalizations Thursday. There are 535 people in the hospital for COVID-19, in the state. This time last week there were 468 people hospitalized. Almost 88% of all ICU beds are in use.
Under health orders from Governor Gary Herbert, masks are required indefinitely and all social gatherings between different households are off limits until Nov. 23. Herbert announced on Thursday that he will not be extending restrictions on same-household social gatherings past Monday.
