First responders in Wasatch County report that a rescue they had to make Sunday at Strawberry Reservoir is a reminder to be careful about ice conditions.
The county’s dispatch center received a call before 11:30 a.m. Sunday. A group of people was ice fishing on Strawberry, but then found themselves stranded on an ice floe that drifted away from the bank.
Wasatch Search and Rescue and EMS were dispatched to the area. Responders were able to get to the scene and made sure the party was safe until a boat arrived. Three adults and a dog were brought back to shore.
The Search and Rescue report said the episode could have ended differently, because there’s very little ice and most of it is unsafe. The report said, ‘Please know how to read the ice before you venture out this early in the season.”
