Utah Wildfire Info reported the East Canyon Fire is now 45% contained as of Wednesday evening.
The East Canyon Fire was started near East Canyon State Park in Morgan County midday Tuesday and burned upwards of 1,000 acres before crews began to contain the blaze.
Summit County fire crews were monitoring the situation as winds had been pushing the blaze towards Summit County.
Utah Wildfire announced late Tuesday that an investigation has determined the fire was human caused. A piece of heavy equipment is suspected to have struck a rock and ignited nearby vegetation.
Highway 66 is now open, but hiking trails in the area remain closed. Evacuations along the highway have also been lifted.
A red flag warning is in effect throughout much of Utah until early Thursday.
