Work is already underway on the first phase of the Thaynes Canyon pathway project to make biking and walking improvements in the Thaynes Canyon / Three Kings area.
Park City engineer John Robertson said the first phase includes a path on the south side of Thaynes Canyon Drive along the municipal golf course’s driving range between Three Kings Drive to state Route 224 and across the highway to Snow Creek Drive which connects with the McLeod trailhead.

He said this will eliminate all overflow parking at the golf course.
“It does remove that parking that has been not really a formal parking area because it was just dirt,” Robertson said. “And our parking areas should be paved, so that will be no longer accessible by folks.”
While the first phase may appear like a sidewalk to nowhere, Robertson said when both phases are complete, there will be a 12-foot sidewalk from the golf course to Park City Mountain Resort along Three Kings Drive.
“There’s going to be a conversation with them for sure, definitely along Thaynes, but Three Kings, there's going to be a conversation with residents to talk about what is going to work for them or not. We'll have to see,” he said.
Currently it is only one-way traffic on Thaynes Canyon Drive. Construction on phase two starts next spring and is expected to end by the fall of 2026.
Next week, renovations begin on Homestake Road from Kearns Boulevard to Park Avenue. The new road will feature a 12-foot multi-use pathway, a 6-foot sidewalk and parking improvements. The new Engine House development is expected to increase the use of Homestake Road.
Robertson said the road will be closed to all through traffic this summer. Accommodations will be made for residents living along Homestake.

“Homestake is going to start on the 27th of May and we’re going to be doing some outreach with vehicle or changeable message signs – just let people know where it’s coming, when it’s starting and how it will impact residents” he said. “We will no longer allow traffic through Homestake, but all residents and businesses will have access to their homes and business during that time.”
Homestake Road has provided off-street parking for residents of the Claimjumper and Homestake condos. He said the street parking will be returned when the project is finished but there won’t be any additional parking.
The project will be finished this fall before tenants move into the new Engine House development.
