Water Districts Part Of Council's Agenda

Taxes and the county's water district are among the miscellaneous topics for the Summit County Council Wednesday.

The Council meets at the Coalville Courthouse. At about 4:30, they will get a briefing from the Central Utah Water Conservancy District which is proposing a tax increase.

County Manager Tom Fisher said this doesn't impact many of their citizens. The boundaries of the Central Utah District only include the southern end of the county.

"The district really just comes into the southern part of the county. Kind of the Jordanelle area, because the Jordanelle reservoir is part of that district. So, anybody that's along the Provo River drainage could possibly be part of that district. As I was reading through the packet it essentially was a lot of the same reasons that the county had for going through truth in taxation last year. They're trying to get back and recapture some of that inflation area pressure on their tax base. They also seem to have a policy of having some kind of threshold of when to do that."

Later, on the agenda, the council will consider approving a contract with a new General Manager for the Mountain Regional Water District. The new person is Park City resident Scott Morrison.

"Scott has worked for the district for several years, he's been one of their engineers. Very interesting background got his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, went back after working several years in the defense industry, and got a masters in civil engineering to specifically work in water. So, he knows everything from how a water plant works to how water is distributed. He went through a big interview process with other qualified candidates that I participated in, some council members participated in and the Mountain Regional Water board members participated in. We're really excited to have him under contract."

Known for getting all the facts right, as well as his distinctive sign-off, Rick covered Summit County meetings and issues for 35 years on KPCW. He now heads the Friday Film Review team.
