A Park City man has been charged with theft after stealing three snowboards near the Sunrise lift at Canyons Village and trying to sell them on Facebook.

William Richard Ryan, 40, has been charged with four class A misdemeanors, including theft by deception.

The Summit County Sheriff’s office arrested Ryan on Jan. 18 after he responded to a message from undercover detectives about buying the stolen gear at the 7-Eleven on Prospector Avenue in Park City.

The sheriff’s office is working to return the items to their owners.

Authorities recommend locking up skis and snowboards or leaving them on a rack near a window to prevent theft.

The Park City Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office both offer free programs for residents to register their equipment. Law enforcement says it helps reunite skis, snowboards and bikes with the rightful owners if stolen.
