Each spring the Land Trust Alliance hosts a national advocacy conference in Washington D.C. so they can learn from each other, educate Congress on land trusts and work to build political influence.

The Land Trust Alliance is the national leader in setting policy and standards for the nation’s land trusts and assists them to save more land for future generations to ensure everyone has access to natural places.

Summit Land Conservancy CEO Cheryl Fox is attending this year’s conference. Conservancy Vice President of Communications Caitlin Willard says over the next three days, Fox will hear from federal lawmakers, policy experts and administration leaders to provide some perspective and insight on land conservation issues.

“The Advocacy Days give land trust leaders from across the country the opportunity to participate in meetings with members of Congress and their key agency staff. It also gives us the opportunity to educate the newly seated Congress about our work in Utah's communities and advocate for important policies and federal funding that the land trust community really depends on, like the Farm Bill.”

As part of the conference, Fox is scheduled to meet with congressional representatives as well as with staff from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and Dept. of Energy.

The mission of the conference is to not only provide land trust leaders with training but to facilitate relationships with Congress and relate the message that land conservation is an important national and local issue.
