Wyatt Pike made his live musical debut on air as the show’s musical guest.  Martha Reeves, lead singer of one of Motown’s biggest hit-makers- Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, called in to talk about her place in Motown history and about her shows this weekend at Egyptian Theatre with The Vandellas. And Sydney Holmes, marketing coordinator from Zermatt Resort & Spa in Midway let us know about the Swiss Christmas Market and other holiday-themed, family-friendly events happening this month at The Zermatt.

Acoustic duo Hot Tuna will be on the Egyptian Stage for three days this week.

The Thursday-Saturday performances is the Americana band’s second visit to the Egyptian Theatre.

Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna says he and Jack Casady have played music with each other since they were teens.

A record-breaking number of local kids are part of the Youth Theater’s production of Wizard of Oz.  The play opens Friday night at the Egyptian Theatre.

The play features the talent of 33 local youth and another four who serve as the production’s tech crew.

This junior version of the Wizard of Oz is directed by Amber Hansen.

On today’s The Morning Mix JW and Christie will speak with musician Cris Jacobs, who will be performing with his band on the Canyons Village stage Saturday for apres ski followed by fireworks for the President’s Day weekend crowds; and with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Mary Wilson, a best -selling author, singer, and performer extradinaire who was a founding member of the 1960’s Motown hitmakers The Supremes.  She’ll be performing this weekend at Egyptian Theatre. The in-studio local musical guest this week will be Alicia Stockman.

Two-time Grammy-winning singer Rita Coolidge visits the Egyptian Theatre to perform songs from her new album—and the classic tracks. KPCW’s Emily Means has more.

Rita Coolidge released her 18th solo album, “Safe in the Arms of Time,” in May 2018, after years away from the studio. With a career spanning nearly five decades, Coolidge decided now was the moment to skip the record companies’ artistic direction and make an album that was true to herself.

Canned Heat

Instead of “Goin Up the Country” fans of Canned Heat can go up Main Street this weekend to the Egyptian—where the band is playing January 11th to the 13th.

KPCW spoke with Skip Taylor, who has been with the band, on and off, for 52 years. He produced their original hits, including “Going Up the Country” and “On the Road Again.”

He said the current group has the genuine Canned Heat sound and attitude and has been together for about 10 years.

Local musical guests Telluride Meltdown perform in studio, and early rock 'n' roll musical and cultural icon Chubby Checker joins us before his shows at Egyptian Theater this weekend. Led Zeppelin, The Beatles and Queen have long since broken up but it’s tribute bands like Zoso, Imagine – Remembering the Fab Four and Queen Nation that take you back to the glory days of classic rock. Celebrating the end of the year – Director of Operations and Programming Amber Hansen said the Egyptian Theatre is presenting what they call, British Invasion Week.

Main Street Mall Closer To Being Finished

The redevelopment of the Main Street Mall has been underway for about half a decade. Now the developer of the project says it's rounding third base and is just about complete. Rick Brough has more.
