The Pre-K through 8th grade Park City Day School received an anonymous $1 million donation this week.  They have about 140 students in the school and have the capacity to accommodate up to about 210.

Park City Day School is a private, independent, non-profit school located in the Pine Brook area of Park City. The Head of School, Ian Crossland says he does not know who made the donation. He says no one does.

Park City Day School Head of School, Ian Crossland talks about their efforts to become accredited as  International Baccalaureate School. They begin teacher training in the lower school right away and plan to spend the next two years working toward the goal. They’ll follow with the upper school next year as they work toward full accreditation for grades K-8. James Nieheus, artist and map maker talks about his 30-year career of creating ski area maps for most of the resorts in North America.

The Park City Day School is the outcome of a merger of two local private schools: the Park City Academy and the Colby School.  They’ve been operating since 2010 offering preschool through eighth grade. The learning model used considers the whole child, which means they put emphasis on student’s emotional as well as academic development.  The school is working on International Baccalaureate accreditation. There is also a student-led effort to ban single use plastic bags in Summit County. Carolyn Murray has the story:
