Park City History Bits - July 4, 2013

Premiered July 4, 2013

You just won gold in the Winter Olympics! What do you do now?

This is Bill Redeker with your weekly Park City History Bit.
Nicknamed skiing’s first “Super Star,” Stein Eriksen became – and is – a big part of the Park City community, as well as Deer Valley Resort’s ambassador of skiing. Stein came to the U.S. with Norwegian friends in tow after winning a gold medal in the 1952 Winter Olympics. He revolutionized the world of skiing, in part by using his background in gymnastics to devise aerials and kick-started the sport of freestyle skiing. Stein gave some class to the 70s by doing a forward summersault on skis every afternoon at Park City Ski Area, to the thrill of everyone on the hill. Now 85, he still knows how to charm any ski enthusiast.

Monika served as a sales associate in Underwriting and Fundraising for KPCW from 2011 - 2016, but that was after nine years as a volunteer DJ, and most of them as a co-host of the KPCW Classifieds Show. Her background includes everything from running ELIZAS in an immunology lab to waiting tables to writing for newspapers and magazines. Her real passion is creating memes.
