Herbert Signs Park City, Summit County-supported Renewable Energy Act

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert signed House Bill 411 into law Friday, setting up a framework for communities to move towards using net-100% renewably sourced electricity.

Park City and Summit County backed HB 411, the Community Renewable Energy Act, along with Salt Lake City and Rocky Mountain Power. HB 411 creates guidelines for establishing a renewable energy program between a community and an electric utility, including rates and terms of service. The bill passed in the final hours of the 2019 legislative session.

Park City Mayor Andy Beerman says he’s excited to see Utah move toward more consumer choice, clean energy and better air quality.

“This was a critical piece of legislation for Park City to achieve our 2030 net-zero goal," Beerman said. "It also enables a quicker shift to renewable energy for communities all across Utah and serves as a roadmap for other States.”

Park City Community Engagement Manager Linda Jager says the city and other bill partners will host a special event celebrating the signing of HB 411 later this month.
