Idaho Police Continue Search For Missing Park City Resident

Blaine County Sheriff's Office

Authorities still haven’t found a Parkite missing in Idaho. They are continuing the search in the area despite below freezing temperatures at night and snow on the ground.

Fern Baird is known in Park City as an active member of the community, who has volunteered for Silly Sunday and other local events and venues.

Baird left for a hike last Monday and is still missing, according to the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office.

The 63-year-old signed into the Prairie Creek Trailhead north of Ketchum, Idaho at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19. County Sheriff Search and Rescue members and the sheriff’s office started to look for her the following Thursday after she was reported missing.

Officials found her car in the Prairie Creek parking area, which led them to search surrounding areas like Prairie, Minor and Norton Lakes and Mill Lake. Elevation in these areas range from 7,100 feet to 9,200 feet.

So far, there have been three K9 search teams, helicopters, and search parties on foot, motorcycle, and horseback.

The Sheriff’s Office reported that they think a Boise couple and a party of five hikers from Oklahoma, might have seen Baird. They are looking into talking to these groups for more information.

Baird is 5’5” and weighs 115 lbs. Baird was last seen in photos wearing a grey jacket, black pants and a black fanny pack.

Baird’s family is offering a $25,000 reward for information. If you have any information you can call the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 578-3371.
