The Park City School District Board of Education will hold a special work session10 a.m. Wednesday at the Park City School District offices on Kearns Boulevard. The work session will consider facilities renovations proposed for the next five years.
The school board is continuing to evaluate financing mechanisms to expand school facilities. The master planning priorities are to move the 9th grade into an expanded Park City High School, to move 8th grade to an expanded Ecker Hill Middle School for 6th through 8th grades, and to provide universal pre-kindergarten at each of the four elementary schools, along with a wrap-around after school program at two elementary locations.
The owners’ representatives, MOCA Consultants, will guide the district through the bonding, design, and building process. The projects will involve the capital expansion of six of Park City School District’s seven schools.
The school board has not determined a future use for the 8th and 9th grade Treasure Mountain Junior High School. Still, students will not be attending classes in the facility under the new master planning scenario.
The price tag is not final but falls in the $80 to $120 million range. The school board will continue discussions at the special meeting to decide the general obligation bond needed to accomplish the facilities expansions and the phasing plans.
Consultants will present costs, phasing, impacts on learning, and green building considerations.
