Anthropologist Donald Johanson

On November 24, 1974, paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson was walking across a site in Ethiopia when he saw bones, specifically an elbow, sticking out of the soil. He and his team would go on to find 47 bones of the iconic fossil "Lucy."

He now celebrates the 50th anniversary of uncovering Lucy and talks about how Lucy’s discovery continues to be central to discovering key elements of the human story.
