Park City School Board Ratifies 2018-19 Budget

On July 3rd, the Park City Board of Education unanimously ratified the school budget for the 2018-19 school year, along with the proposed $5.6 million tax increase. The vote was taken immediately following one extended comment from a member of the public who wanted to understand the School Board’s decision  on the new Superintendent’s compensation package. The Park City School Board voted 4 to 1 in favor of adopting the revised 2018 school budget along with the new 2018/19 budget.  Board Member Petra Butler was the sole dissenting vote.  The budget includes a $5.7 million tax increase proposal this year and another similar amount next year in addition.  Carolyn Murray has this:

There are 21 new positions proposed for the 2018/19 school year.  Board Member Petra Butler says administration doesn’t have systems or resources to make a smooth transition for the new hires.

The Park City Board of Education started leadership training this week with a consultant from the Action Leadership Group.  Earlier in 2018, the board was urged by the community to bring expertise to their operational practices after a flurry of resignations and departures from district administrators.  Carolyn Murray has this:

Park City 8th Grade English Teacher Suspended

A Treasure Mountain Junior High School Teacher is suspended for presenting the lyrics of an Eminem song to her 8th grade class earlier last month.   According to some reports, one student complained of the lyrics to parents who then contacted Administration which has resulted in the teacher’s suspension and an investigation.  Carolyn Murray has this:

Park City School Board Announces Interim Superintendent

The Park City Board of Education announces Parleys Park Principal, David Gomez as the interim superintendent to handle daily leadership duties for the district while Superintendent Ember Conley transitions to her new leadership role in Mesa Arizona. Carolyn Murray has this:

Budget talks have been underway for at least six weeks at Park City School District Board of Education meetings. Discussions this week included staffing needs for elementary school intervention and changes in student fees. The state does not allow fees to be charged at the elementary school level. However, pre-school fees can be charged.  Board members are looking for more details before approving new fees for 2018-19. Carolyn Murray has this:
