Tick Season In The Wasatch Back

It’s tick season in the Wasatch Back and with the wet spring, they’re plentiful. Neighborhood social media sites are rife with photos of people finding them on their bodies after gardening, lawn mowing, and hiking. Outdoor pets are especially susceptible to ticks latching on and like humans, they can get very sick from diseases carried by the parasite.

Being tick aware and removing them before they have started to feed will keep you and your pets healthy from tick related diseases.

Measles Outbreaks On The Rise In The US

Measles was nearly eradicated 20 years ago. However, outbreaks are occurring in surrounding mountain states now, due to many people who are not vaccinated.   Health professionals are concerned that an outbreak of measles in Summit County is just a matter of time.

Park City Board of Education Vice President, JJ Ehlers talks with Carolyn about the drop in Student Enrollment and other topics discussed at the school board meeting on Tuesday. Park City School Board Candidate, Vicky Fitlow is running for the district 4 seat which is currently held by JJ Ehlers. She outlines her reasons for running and what she hopes to contribute to the school board, if elected. Carolyn Rose is the Summit County Nursing Director and talks about the importance of getting a flu shot, if not for yourself, then do it for those who have compromised immune systems.

The West Nile Virus has been detected in three counties in Northern Utah.  It has not shown up in humans at this reporting but the Health Department is concerned about getting the word out that the virus has been detected and letting folks know that people and horses are more susceptible to the illness caused by the virus.
