The documentary The Battered Bastards of Baseball looks at the Portland Mavericks of the 1970s - the only independent ball team existing then. A Hollywood actor founded the team, staffed it with scruffy athletes who played for the fun of it, and went on to embarrass the Major Leagues. Rick Brough takes a Closeup view of this film.
