Amber Borowski Johnson

Community Engagement Manager

Amber grew up in the Canadian Rockies, where her earliest memories involve riding chairlifts in subzero temperatures. After graduating from BYU, her first job was reporting Ski Utah's epic snow totals on the radio as the "Craaaaazy Canuck." As an NPR nerd, she is excited to return to her radio roots as one of the voices behind KPCW's new show, The Community Campfire.

Amber spent 20 years building Colorado's first and largest online community for moms, earning the Colorado Associated Press Editors and Reporters Association "Online General Excellence" award. She's also a former Denver Post columnist, a publicist in the tourism and non-profit sectors and a seasoned adventure travel writer. Her true passions lie in community building, storytelling and positivity emanating.

Amber has two fantastic young adults, two bonus exchange students and is happily married to a man obsessed with growing The Great Pumpkin.

  • Julie Wilson, a longtime Park City resident and French-trained chef who helped shape Deer Valley’s food and beverage scene over nearly four decades, share stories of skiing the resort before it opened and her life in the growing mountain town. Then, John MacDonald of Midway, tells stories ranging from dart mishaps to cheerleading surprises to family joys and resilience in the face of cancer. And singer-songwriter Elizabeth "Bee" Hareza, a former Park City local now based in Nashville, talks about overcoming stage fright, building a supportive artist community and performs two original songs in studio. Plus, we have an update on local sports and local events, and the Campfire Kids bring the funny.
  • From his beginnings as a paralyzingly shy kid to a dare that landed him in the unexpected spotlight, John McDonald’s childhood was anything but quiet — even if he was. Raised in a blended family of 11 in the wilds of Washington, this Midway dad has a heart as big as his stories are hilarious (we’re talking darts, booby traps, missing thumbs… and a Senior Ball King twist you won’t see coming).
  • Singer-songwriter Elizabeth "Bee" Hareza, a former Park City local now based in Nashville, talks about overcoming stage fright, building a supportive artist community and performs her originals “Love Myself” and “Thinking Problem” in the KPCW studio.
  • Meet Julianne Carone from WasteLess, a local food rescuer giving surplus groceries a second chance to feed our community. Tammy Porter shares a hilariously harrowing tale of a family clunker, a sketchy good Samaritan, and one unforgettable summer breakdown. And teen musician Liam Given performs two original songs — “Keeping Track” and “Moss” — and shares how Park City summers fuel his creative spark. Plus, get updates on sports, local events, fun facts, and the always entertaining Campfire Kids.
  • Do you have a family history of clunky cars? Tammy Porter does. One summer, while home from college, the family clunker gave out on the side of a steep hill. What followed included a sketchy good Samaritan and a whole lot of laughter. So buckle up — or at least pretend your seatbelt works — and hear how Tammy’s summer break turned into a full-blown breakdown.
  • This week, bucking bulls, championship dreams, and family grit collide in Daniel, UT for a rough-and-rowdy rodeo story with heart. Then, go behind the mic and meet KPCW Wednesday morning DJ Rudy Tessnow – better known as Rudy on the Radio. The Campfire Music Sesh features local artist Wyatt Pike who previews his latest release. Plus, Coach Skinner has the skinny on sports and the Campfire Kids entertain as always.
  • On a gritty, homegrown ranch in Daniel, Utah, the Simpson family has transformed childhood fun into a full-blown, championship-winning rodeo operation where bulls train like athletes and even strike a pose.
  • On this week's The Community Campfire, Amber Johnson visits with a Wallsburg couple keeping print alive through their charming newspaper, "The Little Valley Dispatch." Andrea Buchanan chats with our multi-talented DJ Caren Bell. You know her from Wednesday afternoons, but her playlist is just the beginning. Plus, Claire Wiley’s interview with musician Dan Tyminski, Coach Skinner’s Skinny on Sports, fun facts, trivia and the Campfire Kids chime in with their trademark chaos and unexpected wisdom.
  • In a world glued to screens and inboxes full of spam, a couple in Wallsburg is bringing back the magic of mail with “The Little Valley Dispatch,” a free, print newspaper packed with heartfelt local stories, surprising moments and a reminder of what community truly means. This little paper proves that sometimes, the best stories are the ones that bring warmth and connection straight to your mailbox.
  • This week on The Community Campfire, celebrate 7/11 Day with Slurpee nostalgia and a sunny weekend forecast. Then, we dive into a story from Park City's own Brian Ward, a retired geneticist, who shares how he’s helping fight poverty in rural Kenya through the Kenya Uriti Education Fund. The fund supports local schools, scholarships and feeding programs that impact thousands. Later in the show, local indie-folk duo Iron Canyon Echoes brings their cello-fueled mountain sound to the studio with two live performances. Plus, prankster kids, the latest on local sports, and weekend music events from Park City to Salt Lake.
