Sundance Film Festival director Eugene Hernandez came out on stage at the Eccles Center Thursday midway through the premiere screening of the musician Questlove’s new documentary to apologize for repeated sound failures.
For seconds at a time, sound would completely cut out in the theater, leaving some in the audience to groan.
Hernandez apologized for the disruptions and blamed the issue on new technology at the theater. He said it had nothing to do with the film. However, the problems continued to occur throughout the screening.
Similar audio problems happened during the earlier screening of ‘Twinless’ at the Eccles, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
Sundance spokesperson Tammie Rosen told KPCW crews worked overnight to fix any audio issues ahead of more screenings Friday.
Ember Conley, who manages the Eccles Center for Park City Performing Arts, said Sundance brings in their own equipment and completely rents out the theater.
The Eccles Center is the largest venue at Sundance, with over 1,000 seats.
